当你读到关于癌症研究的新闻故事时，请记住一个健康警示：相信字里行间的希望，但别信里边的炒作。一个好的新闻标题醒目煽动，可迅速地“收割”大范围的读者注意力；然而坚实的科学却是长期针对复杂问题一步一步迈出的路。如果一种新的疗法仍在研究过程中，那意味着真正应用到临床还需要很多年。虽然我们在面对华而不实的信息时要保持头脑的清醒，但是仍需承认癌症的治疗已多有突破，希望一直都在。现在我们知道除了传统的侵入性化疗之外，还有一些更智能更有效的靶向药。比如说一些乳腺癌细胞的存活有赖于一种叫做HER2的蛋白质，可使用抗体药物赫塞汀进行治疗；而另一种乳腺癌细胞则依附于雌激素，可由抗雌激素它莫西芬控制。
