What makes me startled is that the man turns down the proposal of the waitress that he can take the leftovers away. The implication conveyed by the picture to us is that wastage is a pervasive phenomenon in our life.

　　So what are the reasons of the phenomenon reflected by the figure? First of all, the most important factor that we have to take into account is that with people’s living standard improving, they can afford to consume more food, which inevitably leads to more resource waste. Besides, importance hasn’t been attached to the improvement of the thrift awareness of the public, especially those who hold the opinion that it doesn’t matter if they waste some food. Last but not least, the lack of severe punishments can, directly or indirectly, lead to wastage. Some people rather miss the point, putting all their energy and passion into purchasing more food after wasting some rather than saving more at the first place.

　　From what has been mentioned above, it is high time that some effective initiatives were taken to raise the thrift awareness of the public in order to control waste and save more resources.
